The River Runner

Comprised of two elements, a cabin and a piece of linear infrastructure, the River Runner inhabits the winding paths of the EuroVelo 6 route.

The fundamental construct of the design is not the cabin but rather the linear bar. The linear bar serves as the primary spatial organizer of the assembly by taking all of the potential clutter and necessary amenities and re-imagining them as a singular pragmatic device. As a result, it is able to function both in concert with the cabin or as it’s own entity where a cabin may not be needed but day-time amenities are still desired. The services it provides are revealed and celebrated in turn creating an iconic and whimsical design.

When paired together, the linear bar alleviates the cabin of the mundane duties and allows for it to be solely dedicated to the comfort of its guests. The split-level design opens up a gracious gathering space framed by a floor-to-ceiling window and above, creates an overlook out to the fireplace and bike maintenance yard.

The two elements are intended to both compliment and contrast one another. They form an interdependence much like that of the relationship between biker and bike which work in concert as they explore the wonders of their journey.
